What's up everybody, Adam here with etrailer. Today, we're going to be taking a look at the tow-ready hitch ball. So this one is going to be for your two-inch couplers. So just look on your coupler, make sure you have a two-inch before you grab this one. And it is going to have a max gross trailer weight of 7,500 pounds. The things you need to look at whenever you're pairing this up with a ball mount, you just want to make sure that we're not really limiting this.

So we want to kind of match it up to the corresponding capacity of our ball mount, just so it's a good system together, and it can handle everything you want to use it for. So with this, basically, all you need to look for as well with your ball mount. So we want to make sure this plate is not going to be any thicker than inch and no thinner than a half an inch. And the reason for that is the shank, AKA the threaded portion of our ball, is going to be about two and one-eighth inches long. It's going to have a diameter of an inch.

So another thing is the hole on our ball mount, we want to make sure that's an inch as well, just so it's a nice snug fit. And we have a nut on the bottom. It's going to be a one-inch nut, but the socket, you're going to want to grab a inch and a half socket to torque this down. And when it comes to ball mounts, with this one, we're going to want to torque it down to 250 foot pounds, which is a lot. So make sure you have a breaker bar or a torque wrench, whatever, just to make sure that you torque it down properly, just so this thing doesn't come undone whenever you're going down the road.

When it comes to trailer hitch balls, it's just kind of comes down to what size you need, what capacity you need. And when it comes to the finish, it doesn't matter what finish it has unless it's aluminum, it's gonna rust away. So don't expect to grab this ball and not have it rust away every time. There's just so much going on and so much metal on metal contact that it will rust away and that's with any other ball mount. It's still gonna work, but it's not going to look as pretty as it does now.

So if you really wanted to upgrade and prevent that from happening, you can go ahead and grab a aluminum ball. We do have some here, and you can pair that up with an aluminum ball mount, just so nothing's going to rust away. But when anything is made of steel, doesn't matter what kind of coating it is. It will eventually rust away after a year or so of use. When it comes to the trailer hitch balls, really all you need to make sure of is that it's the right size for your trailer. Make sure that it has a big enough rating for the trailers that you plan on hauling. And then we do want to make sure we pair it up with the right ball mount. We have a lot of options, so it shouldn't be that difficult for you guys to find the right setup for you. But this one it's basically kind of covers all those areas. I mean, I don't really haul massive trailers, but with this, it's really perfect for the middle of the road guys, you know, it'll take care for your smaller trailers, but also your bigger trailers. So as long as you take all this information from this video, I really do think this is going to cover a lot of those bases for you guys. And it's going to be a great option for you as well. And that's basically it for our look at the tow-ready hitch ball..

  • Best Extended Ball Mount for Towing a 4,000 lbs Trailer
Hey Ben! All of the hitch extenders like the Gen-Y item # GY89SR are going to reduce your hitch's capacity by 50% so I am not sure that's going to work with your Land Rover's towing capacity. So long as you are not using a ball mount with a bunch of drop the easiest way to get some extra distance is to use the Hidden Hitch Ball Mount item # 80232. The Hidden Hitch Ball Mount item # 80232 is 15-3/4" long from the hitch pin hole to the center of the hitch ball. It does have 2" of drop built...

  • Recommendations for 2014 Subaru Outback 2.5i Limited Towing a 5x8 Hiker Highway Deluxe Trailer
Trailer Brakes are not required on most trailers under 3,000 lbs unless otherwise stated by the local authorities. This should not be an issue with safety behind your 2014 Subaru Outback, but you can add them if desired. I would just need you to pull a hub and let me know the number on the grease seal and the face of the 2 bearings in that hub. With that info I can get you the parts needed for the upgrade. The bigger issue with a trailer this size and weight is sway caused by wind...

  • Recommended Hitch Extender for Towing with a 2008 Range Rover
Since hitch extenders like the 11" Roadmaster # RM-071 you show in your pictures reduces the weight rating of the hitch by 50% we typically recommend avoiding them as a solution. For your application we have ball mounts with extended shanks that don't reduce the weight capacity of your hitch and that's what I recommend going with. For a long ball mount we have the Brophy Ball Mount # BM20 which has a 3/4" rise/2" drop and measures 13-1/4" from the center of the hitch pin hole to center...

  • Which Stealth Hitch Option for Towing Small Boat With 2021 Hyundai Palisade
The # 391CONVPT5L Stealth Hitch you'd looked at doesn't include the receiver that's designed for towing, it's meant for hitch mounted accessories only, but there are options that would allow you to tow your boat. To tow your boat, there's a couple ways you can go to upgrade to make that possible. You could use the part # 391CONVPT5L hitch, add the # 391BMU5L ball mount and a # 63845 2-inch trailer ball and the # CU94FR 4-pole trailer wiring harness, which would provide you everything you...

  • Recommended Extended Ball Mount or Hitch Extender for Towing Boat Trailer
For your 2018 Tahoe and boat trailer needing a longer extension between them I recommend the Brophy Ball Mount for 2" Hitch - 3/4" Rise, 2" Drop - 13-1/4" Long - 10,000 lbs # BM20. Having a longer ball mount like this will not reduce the capacity of your hitch at all. This will give you a length of 13-1/4 inches from the center of the ball to the hitch pin hole. For a compatible hitch ball the shank needs to be 1 inch diameter for this mount. I recommend the 2 inch ball # 40038 or...

  • Class III Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 2017 Subaru Outback 3.6R
For a Class III hitch, I'll typically recommend the Curt product because they do a slightly nicer job on their powder coat finish than Draw-Tite does. Curt offers both a traditionally styled Class III hitch, part # C13206 which would have the entire hitch visible from the rear and a mostly-concealed hitch, part # C13410 which would have the crossbar of the hitch concealed behind the bumper with the only visible portion of the hitch being the receiver tube and the safety chain hoops. • Trailer Coupler Will Not Release Hitch Ball Even After Lubrication
I see you have tried the usual fixes for a coupler that won't release the hitch ball - moving the vehicle slightly to potentially release excess tension on the ball, lubrication with WD-40 and even a little brute force with the pry bar. You can also first make sure the trailer is supported, and then remove the hitch pin from the ball mount and move the truck forward. This will ensure there is little or no tension on the ball/coupler. This will also give you more room to work and free up...

  • Recommended Tightening Torque for Hitch Mounting Bolts
The Tow Ready 2 Inch Hitch Ball, part # 63845, you have referenced needs to be torqued to 250 foot pounds. It is recommended to frequently check that the ball is tightened to these specifications. If you are meaning the mounting bolts that are used to attach a hitch to a vehicle, it would depend on the hitch part number and the year make and model of vehicle the hitch is going on. If you can give me that information I can help you determine the torque specifications for your specific application. I...

The longest ball mount we offer is theBrophy Ball Mount for 2" Hitch - 3/4" Rise, 2" Drop - 13-1/4" Long - 10,000 lbs # BM20 which measures 13-1/4" from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the ball hole. Now the # BM20 has a 10,000lb trailer weight rating, and 1,000lb tongue weight rating. Next, there is a formula you can use to determine the best place for your axles. For a 2" hitch ball you can use # 63845 and for a 2-5/16" hitch ball you can use # 63847. To put it on the system, you only need to slide the ball into the hitch head and tighten it. This is perfectly acceptable. You can select a different ball mount for your hitch that gives you additional height (rise) by using the link provided at right. For example, if you want...
